FreeNAS SMB Shares Disappear from Network

So a few weeks ago, I set up a FreeNas 11 box, mainly for use with my windows computers utilizing SMB. I set up my SMB shares after a long troubleshooting process with user permissions, and everything was working fine.

That is, until I tried to access said share on my Linux Mint cinnamon box. I created a UNIX (NFS) share in hopes that it would work with Linux, but when I went into the network tab of my file explorer, I only found my SMB shares. My reasoning was that I could just use my SMB shares on and delete the unix share I just made. Everything worked just fine on linux, I could access my files, but when I went back onto my windows machine, there was no NAS. In other words, when I went to the network tab of file explorer, there was no entry for my NAS.

From there I tried all kinds of things. I tried changing the version of Samba used by the plugin to a newer version, double checking network settings, everything I could think of. I rebooted the client and server several times and recreated my shares. I've been troubleshooting this for hours and I'm at the end of my rope. I could just reinstall freenas, but that is a painful process and I'm not exactly sure I want to solve the issue without knowing what caused it. If my shares break every time I access on Linux, that's not ideal.

Any settings you think I could tweak? Also let me know if you need clarification on anything else I did, I changed so much that I don't remember all of what I did.

Did you actually try to connect to the share (//server-IP)?

Try the IP it's different and works better than netbios.

Ok, that sort of worked. I can log in but I only see some of my shares. One of them is called "homes", which doesn't work when I try to log into it and I never created it. One of my main shares is missing as well. It also doesn't ask me what I want to log in as, so I'm a little confused.

I would really like to be able to see it on the network. I do not want to have to use IP's.

That means Windows successfully logged in with your Windows credentials.

I only see some of my shares
Presumably you don't have read permissions for the rest.

Yeah, don't we all, but it doesn't work very well, as you're experiencing.

You just map a network drive and you never have to worry about it again. Windows will just connect every time you log into your desktop.

Sounds like you also have some confusion around permissions. Did you watch the freenas smb permission video?

Not really, I don't have a lot of confusion around permissions. I had it all set up before where I could just double click on my drive, log in as the user on my network and it would work fine. As soon as I logged in on Linux though, all of those things disappeared and it's 150% f**'ed. I also tried reinstalling freenas on a different usb stick, importing my zfs volume and the same thing is happening. I think frustrated would put my situation lightly.

It doesn't have anything to do with logging in from Linux. I have the same setup and Linux does not change anything. Things where messed up from the start this is obvious from the fact that you reinstalled and have the same problem.

No, that's completely false. It was not broken from the beginning: everything was working 100% the way I wanted it to with all my permissions leading up to me creating a Unix share and logging in on linux. Now, I'm not implying that either of those caused it, but my point is, you can't just assume that I had it wrong from the beginning. I have a feeling something might have changed on my router's side or possibly my client, though I have tried on my laptop and it also did not detect the network.

I have already watched that video. I will reiterate again, my permissions were working fine before this occurred and I am not going to use the ip method and try to fix permissions from there. I don't know where you are getting the information that my system was messed up from the start, and how you think it's logical to assume that because the same issue is happening upon reinstall.
