I had to do a fresh installation of freenas where after I imported my old pool which also contains all the storages of the plugin jails. The plugins I want to re-install are Transmission, Sickrage, Couchpotato, Plex, btsync. The transmission jail also had openvpn installed including my vpn settings.

I was wondering how I can install those plugins without overwriting old settings since (afaik) all of the needed data and settings of the plugins is stored in the jail storage, which is on my pool . I would like the same state before I did the fresh installation.

So I guess the first step is to create those jails and point them to the old jail storages?
I have no clue where to start.

Did you save a copy of your configuration before you re installed?

Unfortunately no, I didn't.My boot pool died and I had no backup of my conifg. But aren't all data/dbs for those plugin in the corresponding jail storages?

Yes, all the data will still be intact. Unfortunately without a config restore the only way I know of would be to copy the configs and/or databases for each jail and manually restore them after each application is re installed.

Ok, I see. Then I have to know where all the plugins store their configs and important files. Isnt there a way to install the plugin fresh using a separate jail storage and then after, just tell the plugin to use the "old" jail storage?

If that is not possible, what do I have to copy exactly? For transmission, vpn, sickrage, couchpotato, btsync, plex?

Can I just copy the complete content from the old jail storage to the new? something like this ( I am not sure if the cp options are correct):

cp -aRT jailold/sickrage/* jailnew/sickrage/

Will that work? (also for the openvpn I installed in the transmission)

all of those plugins have a data-directory in their jail's /var/db you can backup and restore
