Hello,
I'm using FreeNAS 9.2.0-RELEASE-x64 (ab098f4).

When I go to Storage > Volumes > View Disks via web UI, I see then my 3 hard disks, named da0, da1 and da2. Each one is a 4Tb disk. When I select one of them and clic on the Edit button, then I want to change "Advanced Power Management" from disabled to "Level 1- Minimum power usage with Standby", but when I clic on the Ok button, to proceed with this new setting, I get the next message in red above the Serial textbox: "Ensure this value has at most 30 characters (it has 32).". And the serial ID is not editable so I cannot change it to a value of 30 characters. This happens whatever the change in the disk settings I try to do. It seems that the webUI is not capable of making any change while the serial is longer than 30 chars.

Is there any workaround? I need to manage the power settings of the disks, but as I've explained, the webUI does not allow any changes. As an example, the serial id of my first disk, named da0, is 00c7c10ff225105b1a80d31505b00506.

Thanks.

No clue, but I'd start with using a current version of the software.. that version is a year old.

Thanks for your answer cyberjock. Can you point me to a link where the upgrade process is explained? I supose upgrading will keep all my configuration settings, the disk array, the shared folders (nfs, samba...) etc.

On the other hand, for in case if even upgrading does not solve this issue, does enaybody know a way to manage the disks power settings via command line instead of using the webUI? Maybe using command line there won't be this 30 characthers limitation of the serial.

Thanks again.

Upgrades are explained in the manual. doc.freenas.org

Pool configuration will be kept intact.

On the other hand, samba and it configuration has changed. You may be better off exporting your pools, and then redoing your configuration in fresh 9.2.1.9. Do not upgrade zpool version until you are entirely comfortable with the new setup though.

Hello,

Sorry to revive such an old thread (maybe I should create a new one?), but I'm having the same problem: I bought a new SanDisk Ultra Fit and its serial number has 120 characters instead of the 30 expected, so I cannot change its settings. I'm using the latest FreeNAS version (11.2-U5).

Is this a known bug? I tried searching but I couldn't find much beyond this thread.

Is there any workaround to change the disk's settings (in particular to disable SMART and to change its description)?

Thank you.
