What an incredibly busy weekend! The staff and volunteers of Southeast Linuxfest (SELF) were awesome! They were very accommodating, and I haven’t felt so welcome at a conference in a long time. The conference was well organized, just as we expected. Jeremy, the coordinator, was always making the rounds checking in on everyone. We also had Jupiter Broadcasting doing live broadcasting during the entire event which was awesome!
We had a ton of people stop by the booth and this time I gave out more PC-BSD disks than FreeNAS disks. Even with that being the case we had a bunch of FreeNAS fans show up as usual to voice just how much they like it. I had about 25 FreeNAS disks left and no PC-BSD disks at the end of the day. The daemon horns were pretty much gone by the second day. Also, we had quite a few requests for T-shirts.
My talk was pretty well attended. If I had to venture a guess I’d approximate about 20-25 people were in attendance. We had a lot of good questions that came in, from questions on understanding how the ZFS file system works to how system-d adoption in Linux will affect software being ported to PC-BSD. SELF live-streamed all of the talks this year so we had additional people from all over the world watching! It was a long weekend, but we had a great turnout and reached a lot of new people.
