Network World Evaluates FreeNAS Performance on iXsystems Server Hardware

Network World recently assessed FreeNAS in terms of usability, features, and NFS I/O performance. In performance tests, the device under test was an iX-2212 server supplied by iXsystems. FreeNAS version 8.3.0-RELEASE-x64 was used in testing.

iXsystems Hardware Reviewed on StorageReview.com

The iXsystems Titan 316J JBOD storage expansion shelf received a thorough and informative review by StorageReview.com, the authority on storage news and reviews.

The Storage Review team briefly discussed chassis specifications before running three sets of tests comparing performance and capacity. The first test measured sequential reads and writes with an 8k block size. The second test was also sequential and measured large-block transfer speeds. The third and final benchmark used completely random tests.

FreeNAS Development Team Announces FreeNAS 8.3.0-RELEASE

The FreeNAS development team is pleased to announce the immediate availability of FreeNAS 8.3.0-RELEASE.

This is a major milestone in FreeNAS development, bringing in the plugin system with ZFS version 28. Development of the FreeNAS 8.2 branch has come to a halt, as both ZFS version 15 as well as FreeBSD 8.2 are no longer supported.
