| iXsystems Provides FreeBSD SAN to TrendMicro |
|
For Immediate Release: iXsystems, Inc., a custom high-performance rackmount appliance provider, recently designed and implemented a new Storage Area Network (SAN) database solution based on the FreeBSD platform. This was deployed by anti-spam technologies firm, Kelkea, Inc., (now Trend Micro) to maintain databases for the MAPS real-time blacklists. "We chose FreeBSD for this project because of its proven reliability and stability in a production environment," said Carlos Kamtha, Senior System Administrator at Trend Micro. "We wanted to ensure that large 20-plus GB files would yield a minimum 5MB/s worse case scenario for write performance on the array via fibre channel," Kamtha said. "We then tested write performance to and from the array with a remote server and were able to get 13-15MB/s and 7-9MB/s with a 70GB file. Much smaller files yielded transfer rates up to 30MB/s." The FreeBSD servers can remotely boot from an image on a FreeBSD-based SAN device via a 1Gb fibre channel, said Matt Olander, iXsystems.com engineer. About FreeBSD About iXsystems, Inc.
