For Immediate Release:
San Jose, July 2, 2007
Up to 96 drives, 96TB potential capacity with JBOD Expansion
iXsystems recently unveiled the most rack-dense storage solution in the
Nearline Storage Class: the Colossus SAN RAID Storage Device. The
Colossus is a high-performance, energy-efficient, tiered storage
solution, ideal for use in expanding data environments, and provides
greater storage density (in terms of GB per rack unit) than any other
storage product currently available. With more than 2x the storage
capacity, up to 2x the throughput, and data transfer rates up to 100
MB/s (~15%) faster than the nearest competitor, the iXsystems Colossus
addresses and exceeds the increasing demand for storage systems capable
of managing and maintaining vast amounts of business-critical data.
"The Colossus is first in its class with unsurpassed storage
density, lightning-fast data transfer rates, dynamic on-line storage
volume and LUN expansion, and the type of fault tolerance and
redundancy expected from Enterprise-Class Storage Systems," said
Michael Lauth, CEO of iXsystems. "We're proud to offer the Colossus as
a solution ideal for disk-to-disk backup, archive, and other
storage-intensive applications. Data Storage is an impending issue now
for all companies, and there is no simpler and more cost-effective way
to centrally manage a large storage pool than with a single Colossus
unit."
Features of the iXsystems Colossus SAN Raid Storage Device include the following:
|
Throughput: Two 4Gb Fiber hosts per controller for up to 16Gb continuous transfer.
Performance: Data Transfer Rates of up to 400 MB/s per controller and 800 MB/s full duplex.
Storage Capacity: 48 SATA-II drive bays, ensures up to 48 TB of storage in only 4U of rack space.
Scalability: JBOD expansion allows an additional 48 hard
drives of storage capacity to be added to the unit. That's 96 drives,
managed and operated through one RAID unit.
Density: Up to 96TB in 8U of Rack space = 12TB per rack unit.
Manageability: Web-based management utility provides the
ability to discover, monitor, configure, and report on multiple arrays
from any existing Internet connection.
Fault Tolerance/Redundancy: *True* Dual Active-Active RAID Controllers = greater uptime and system reliability.
On-line RAID Volume & LUN Expansion: Drives can be added
to grow existing RAID volumes on the fly, without any downtime. LUN
sizes can also be changed without taking the system out of production.
RAID6 Capable: Greater reliability through additional parity drive = far lower chance of data loss during a RAID rebuild.
Warranty: 3 Years of advance-exchange overnight cross-ship
parts replacement (hard drives included); NBD & 24x7 On-Site
Service also available.
Pricing and Availability
iXsystems Colossus RAID and JBOD units are currently available
directly from iXsystems and its Authorized Value Added Reseller
Partners. Industry-leading pricing will vary based on the configuration
and storage capacity needed.
